Position Available: Temporary Part-time Instructors - Child Development
Position Description: Child Development
Date of Appointment: Beginning Fall Semester 2012
Organization:

MCTC is a two-year college located in downtown Minneapolis, serving the diverse, multicultural communities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. We provide a comprehensive offering of developmental, liberal arts, pre-professional, professional, and technical programs.

Responsibilities:
  • Teach college-level courses in the area of child development and education.
  • Teach lecture based, online and blended courses during the day, evening, on or off campus (all potential assignments).
  • Develop syllabi from course outlines and select appropriate materials. Assessment of student outcomes at the course, department and college general education levels.
  • Commitment to providing quality instruction and services to a very diverse student population.
  • Active participation in department meetings and college wide committees.
  • Collegial and cooperative work relationships with colleagues in the department, department support staff and all college personnel.
  • Participation in ongoing professional development activities and professional memberships.
Qualifications:

Education Requirement

  • Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Family Relationship and Family Social Science

Educational Substitutions

  • Bachelor or above degree in appropriate major and 4000 hours of occupational experience or
  • Associate degree or two year diploma (90 quarter credits) in appropriate field and 6000 hours of occupational experience or
  • One year diploma in appropriate field and 7000 hours of occupational experience or
  • Courses for credit or clock hours (1 quarter credit/20 hours or 1 semester credit/30 hours) with an appropriate title or prefix and occupational hours totaling 8000.

Occupational Experience Requirement

  • 8000 hours of occupational experience with children not over age 7 or grade one - 1/2 of experience may be in early childhood education

Recency Requirement

  • One year of this work experience shall be within the five years immediately preceding the date of application for the credential field. The recency requirement shall be waived if the individual has two years of successful full-time (or equivalent) postsecondary teaching experience in the credential field within the last five years.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience teaching in a community and technical college.
  • Experience in an racially, socioeconomically and linguistically diverse environments
  • Experience with multi-lingual populations
  • Experience in special education
  • Current in instructional technologies
  • Successful experience working with children from birth to age eight (8).
