Student email assistance

Log into www.outlook.com. If you haven't logged into your account previously, please read the information below.

How to log in to your Windows Live email account

  1. Go to www.outlook.com.
  2. Log in with your user ID and password.
    • Click "sign in with a different Windows Live ID" if a Hotmail account is automatically entered. Do not click "Sign up".
    • Your user ID = the first 2 characters of your first name + the first 4 characters of your last name + the last 4 digits of your 8-digit MCTC student ID number (example: Jane Smith 00001234 = jasmit1234@go.minneapolis.edu). If your last name is fewer than 4 characters, use all the characters of your last name (example: John Doe 12345678 = jodoe5678@go.minneapolis.edu)..
    • Your Password = the same password you use to log into computers when on campus. This password also equals your eServices password when, using your tech ID as your username. Your email password can only contain lower case letters. When logging into your email account please, convert any upper case letters to lower case.
  3. Enter your birth year.
  4. Choose your country/region.
  5. Review and accept the Microsoft Windows Live Service Agreement and Privacy Statement.

If you experience problems with activating your Windows Live account, stop by The Student Computer Lab (T.3200). We will be happy to assist you (for security reasons, your user ID and password will not be given out via email or over the phone). Please bring your photo ID with you.

Changing your password

Visit e-Services to change your Windows Live password. You cannot change your password in Windows Live. Your e-Services password will be synchronized to your Windows Live account within 90 minutes. NOTE: your password in Windows Live email will be all lowercase.

Forgot your password?

If you forgot your Windows Live password, then you will need to stop by the Computer Lab (T.3200) for assistance. For security reasons, your user ID and password will not be given out via email or over the phone.

Forwarding your email (optional)

If you choose to forward incoming email to another account, then refer to Windows Live Help for instructions.

Official college communications will be sent to your MCTC email account (i.e. jodoe5678@go.minneapolis.edu). Students will be responsible for checking their @go.minneapolis.edu email regularly for important messages from MCTC.
